KEY VERSE : And He cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? (Mat. 26 vs 40).

Jesus asked three of His disciples to keep watch with Him while He went further to pray. This is the easiest of all tasks we may say, nevertheless they failed Him. To them, "sleep" was more important than to do what the master instructed. Pleasure can be very satisfying, but not at the expense of obeying Jesus.

There are still some Christians with the same attitude as these three disciples, who take the things of God with levity, but treat their needs as paramount.
Scripture says "I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day....."(John 9 vs 4).

"Half obedience to the commandments of God is no obedience at all".
Yours might not be "sleep", you need to identify and let go of those things that are hindering you from obeying God completely. What are those things causing you to stagger in your walk with God? What are those habits and addictions interfering with your relationship with the Lord? Identify and let go of them.
If it is taking you far from God, then it needs to go.

The disciples weren't just followers of Christ, they were His close companion, people He chatted and dined with. But when the temptation to sleep came, they couldn't resist. By this, we see that's it is not about how long you have been a Christian, it is not about your position or title in church, it is about how well you know Jesus and how firmly you're standing in the faith.
No body is above temptation (1Corin. 10 vs 13). Which is why Jesus gives us the charge to "Watch and pray".
Our motives and intentions must be bent on Glorifying Jesus, Our focus at every point in time must be solely on Jesus.

The disciples kept themselves busy, doing the wrong thing. If whatever business/career etc you're involved in does not bring Glory to God, then you should quit.
There is nothing more important than pleasing God.

Rather than sowing to the flesh, Get busy with the right things.

You are blessed.

  1. "Rather than sowing to the flesh, get busy with the right things"... Nice piece Laura from Jimmy
