I would have used “happy” but I think happiness is often used to describe a feeling which based on the circumstances around you.

But joy! This is something different for us as believers, it is something that comes from within us. Joy is a fruit of your born again spirit. It’s a part of who you are as God’s child. It’s not something you “feel” at one point and “not feel” at another point.

You can be joyful because that is who you are now that you are in Christ.

Your joy is not based on the happenings around you; it is hinged on something bigger and permanent: Christ.

Does this mean your emotions would always be bubbly irrespective of what life throws at you? Naturally, that’s a no; but guess what? You can control your emotions because of who you are in Christ, confident that you have a good Father.

Your joy is not dependent on circumstances or how you feel; you are who God says you are: joy is within you. So take from within you and put upon.

Here are verses to ponder upon and get that boost:

But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (Galatians 5:22 AMP

Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]. (Colossians 3:2 AMP)

For I consider [from the standpoint of faith] that the sufferings of the present life are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us! (Romans 8:18 AMP)
